Eugene police shoot, kill a man in college


EUGENE, Oregon (KOIN) – An armed man involved in a custody dispute has been shot dead by Eugene's police during a fight just outside. Cascade College Friday morning.

Authorities said they were summoned to school shortly before 10:30 to escort the school man. As they walked him, the authorities said, he produced a firearm.

A fight then took place and the man was shot dead by the police.

The lockout procedures were immediately put in place. No students were injured and he was kept at school until the end of the school day.

"All the students are safe and unscathed, but the school remains in Lockout with all the locked and secure outside doors," the state of the school websitere. "The situation is now secure and the police are continuing their investigation.When the school day is over, students will be released by the side exits.The Cascade front parking is closed.The point of care of students normally Parents or guardians will look for the St. Mark Catholic Church, 1760 Echo Hollow Rd. Please, do not call and do not come to school. "

Despite the school's update, terrified parents rushed to campus after receiving automated calls about the shooting.

"I went all the way to school to see what was happening," said Araceli Aveda, a parent. "People were crying because it's a shooting in a school, you'd think something bad happened."

For Francis Murray, a neighbor, the shooting left her upset by the future.

"I do not want my little babies to grow up in a school where people will shoot everyone," said Murray. "It does not make sense."

The first reports of the scene indicated that the shooting had taken place inside the school. The officials then clarified the details.

According to parents, the man wounded by the bullet had tried to recover a student from the school. The police have not confirmed this yet. The identity of the man was not disclosed.
