Cambridge Teachers Conference in Mumbai explores the curriculum learners need to succeed in the modern world


200 delegates from 150 Cambridge schools across India will attend the Cambridge Teachers’ Conference in Mumbai at the ITC Grand Central on September 24 2013, hosted by Cambridge International Examinations. The conference is entitled ‘Building a curriculum that equips learners for the future’ and will explore the skills students need to succeed in the modern world. 

It will discuss Cambridge’s approach to equipping learners for a successful life in a changing world, showcasing how school leaders are defining their vision and planning their curriculum to inspire their students. Speakers at the Conference will also underline the importance of providing and supporting professional development for teachers as a key factor to students’ performance. 

Keynote speakers include: 

• Isabel Nisbet, Regional Director of Education, South-East Asia, Cambridge International Examinations and former Chief Executive of Ofqual who will outline the Cambridge approach to equipping learners for a successful life in the modern world. 

• Kiran Sethi, Founder-Director of Riverside School, Ahmedabad who will talk about what she has done in her Cambridge school to help students understand the sorts of skills and values required to become a success in the future. 

• Abha Adams, Education Consultant, formerly Director of the Shri Ram School who will discuss the importance of providing and supporting reflective and creative professional development for teachers. Abha will speak from her experience in schools, ensuring that staff too are lifelong learners and move with the times. 

William Bickerdike, Regional Manager for South Asia at Cambridge International Examinations said: “The challenges schools face in preparing students for the future are significant. Researchers have identified skills which they believe learners will need for the modern world and these findings may require a shift in the way curricula are designed, lessons are taught, and schools are led. In this conference we will share unique insights with school teachers and other delegates about how to build a new curriculum to equip learners to take on the challenges of the future.” 

Michael O’Sullivan, Chief Executive, Cambridge International Examinations added: “Our work in India, where we provide assessments and other educational support in more than 300 schools is of great importance to us. It is exciting to be working with schools in a nation where education is changing and progressing at such a fast pace. We have brought together teachers today to discuss what we need to do as educators to prepare young people in India to compete in the global economy.” 

Michael O’Sullivan is also one of the keynote speakers at The Association of International Schools of India (TAISI) conference in Kolkata on 26 September 2013.
