Cambridge International Examinations, a part of University of Cambridge [England], today announced plans to host a kickoff event for its Global Perspectives program in Orlando on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. The event will be held at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld from 8:30am to 2:00pm. Cambridge created the program to support schools and students in the development of core research, collaboration, communication and critical thinking skills essential for success at college and beyond. This event will give principals and educators the chance to experience Cambridge Global Perspectives and the benefits it can bring to their students.
Focused on transforming student learning in Florida’s schools through a global curriculum and innovative assessment methods, Cambridge Global Perspectives takes college preparation to the next level, honing crucial research and thinking skills that lead to success in higher education.
“More than 100 schools across Florida are currently taking advantage of the world class programs offered by Cambridge International Examinations,” said Sherry Reach, Regional Manager, USA, Cambridge International Examinations based in Florida. “Our Global Perspectives program allows students to engage in interactive and stimulating material, preparing them to be very strong candidates for the world’s top universities and research institutions.”
Reach added, “The Global Perspectives program provides a structured approach to achieve the outcomes defined in the Common Core State Standards, which are now being implemented across the United States. Using methods suggested by Common Core, this program helps students develop a deeper understanding of global topics from multiple perspectives and to evaluate arguments, research issues, and arrive at well-reasoned, and evidence-based conclusions.”
The free event will feature a hands-on practicum that allows principals and school administrators to experience Cambridge Global Perspectives in action. Keynote speakers and admission experts, including John Barnhill, Assistant Vice President for Enrolment at Florida State University and Christoph Guttentag, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions at Duke University, will discuss the essential skills that today’s leading universities look for in potential students and the benefits of advanced college preparation programs. Robert Monson, Director, Educational Policy Fellowship Program, Teacher’s College at Columbia University, will demonstrate connections of Cambridge Global Perspectives with the Common Core 11th and 12th grade standards.
