Zachary Sorey is the first person in his family to go to college. From a low income family, Zach wasn’t prepared to take on the debt to attend a four-year university. After two years at TCC and with a 4.0 in engineering, Zach received the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, a national award that will pay all of his tuition at the school of his choosing. When he graduates with his associate degree, the scholarship will send him to Stanford University to study aerospace engineering. One of only about 80 students to win nationally, Zach attributes his success to TCC, where he is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, senator in the Chesapeake campus SGA and executive officer of the Chesapeake campus engineering club.
