Cambridge appeal grows for schools in the UK

11/08/2015

Cambridge IGCSE results have been released today in over 140 countries across the world. Worldwide entries for the qualification have grown 23% on 2014. Over two thousand schools in the UK will receive results for our Cambridge IGCSE First Language English qualifications. Almost a third of students in England taking an English GCSE-level qualification this year took Cambridge IGCSE First Language English.

Across all subjects, Cambridge IGCSEs are increasingly widely used by schools in England. Entries in 2015 were up 56% on 2014, and 2014 saw a growth of 55% on the year before.

Commenting on the growth of Cambridge IGCSE in England, Michael O’Sullivan, Chief Executive, Cambridge International Examinations, said: “2015 has brought another significant increase in schools using Cambridge IGCSE both in the UK and around the world.

“Choosing Cambridge IGCSE is not just about the examination. Schools tell us that they like our IGCSE syllabus content and that students find it engaging. Teachers tell us the syllabus is not only enjoyable to teach, but has offered them stability during a time of change and uncertainty around the curriculum and exams. In Cambridge IGCSE, they see an internationally-respected qualification with well-maintained standards.

“We are confident adoption of Cambridge IGCSE will remain strong in 2016. From 2017, however, many state schools may feel under pressure to drop their first choice of qualification given the Government’s disappointing decision to exclude IGCSE from league tables. For independent schools, this is less likely to be an issue”.
