Women’s Squash Sweeps Dartmouth, Eyes No. 1 Harvard Sunday – GoPrincetonTigers.com

Head coach Gail Ramsay couldn’t have asked for much more from her group Saturday in the opening match of the 2017 Ivy League season.

The fourth-ranked Princeton women’s squash team, ignited by the return of its All-America duo, won 27 of 30 individual games in a 9-0 victory over ninth-ranked Dartmouth at the Jadwin Squash Courts. The 1-2 duo of Olivia Fiechter and Maria Elena Ubina, neither of whom had played since the season-opening victory over No. 5 Stanford, returned to the court and both claimed 3-0 wins to lead the way.

The most dramatic match came at the No. 5 position, where Tiger sophomore Isabel Hirshberg went the distance with Rebecca Brownell, including a 14-12 win in the third game, and scored a 3-2 victory with an 11-6 win in the fifth game.

Freshman Morgan Steelman was pushed to four games before scoring an 11-4 win in the fourth, while all other Tigers scored quick 3-0 wins in their matches. Sophomore Samantha Chai was especially impressive, dropping only nine points total in her win at the No. 6 spot.

Ramsay hopes those quick matches will pay dividends tomorrow, as the Tigers will host top-ranked Harvard at noon, also on the Ivy League Digital Network. The Crimson, which took on No. 2 Penn Saturday afternoon, are the reigning Ivy League and Howe Cup national champions, but Princeton has split its last three home matches with Harvard, including 5-4 wins in their 2009 and 2013 Ivy League championship seasons.
