Professor Jonathan Marks of Ursinus College recently stated in a column that students wanted to be treated like children. He sneakily suggests that Fresno University, which has adopted a new policy to be like other students, should adopt Barney, the purple dinosaur, as a mascot.
the column, titled "First Grade University," continues after a new policy from Fresno State University that, according to Marks, resembles that one could see in a primary school class.
The policy, proposed by Fresno State staff and faculty, encourages students to be "nice" and use the word "thoughtful". Brands, of course, do not go against these universal principles. Instead, he fears that Fresno State staff think these simple principles should be remembered to students.
Fresno Staters "are respectful", which means, among other things, that they "listen carefully to all points of view with the intention of understanding", "consider the impact of [their] communication "and" honor [their] words and commitments. "The staters of Fresno" are nice ", so they" use the words in a thoughtful way and [are] aware of [their] Fresno Staters are "collaborative", they "make [their] share and leave room for others to make them shine. "They are" responsible, so they "take responsibility for [their] behaviors and actions. "
The new policy would aim to reduce bullying in the state of Fresno. But do we really need to remind university-age students to be kind to each other?
Marks then subtly suggests that university professors want to turn universities into a religious center based on their partisan politics of social justice. He specifically says that they want to turn universities into "Sunday schools" based on the teachings of social justice.
As I indicated, ideology is not to blame for the abject failure of a university to articulate in any way and even less to live up to it. his mission of seeking the truth. Advocates of social justice seek to turn our universities into Sunday schools. The bureaucrats who run the universities like any other company and the professors who accompany them are content with less. They just want the kind of school in which all the kids look happy.
Marks ends up sarcastically suggesting that Fresno State replaces its current mascot with Barney, the purple dinosaur, to fit in with its new policy of goodness.
