CAMBRIDGE (AP) – Actor Milo Ventimiglia was honored on Friday by Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Theatricals magazine at Farkas Hall in Cambridge.
The Emmy-nominated actor was awarded the prize after a roasting by Elizabeth Mann and Mariana Sanchez Medina of Hasty Pudding Theatrics, who mocked some of his list B actor roles. and his status as a sex symbol.
"PETA has named Milo as the sexiest vegetarian in the world, even though everyone sees you as a piece of meat," the two Harvard students joked.
Before being able to hold the pot to the milk, Vintimiglia had to endure a little more embarrassment: the Pudding had Fergie Fergie singing "Big Girls Don & # 39; t Cry" (Ventimiglia played in the music video) and gave a dance tour to its members.
Ventimiglia amused himself with jokes, emphasizing how proud he was to receive the title.
"My mother, who refused to be my date two years in a row for the Emmys, made sure to be here tonight," he told the crowd.
After the roast, the Hasty Pudding had the opening night of "France France Revolution", the first production of the troupe featuring women in the cast. Medina and Mann produced the piece.
Ventimiglia said that he was honored to be part of this historic event.
"Knowing that the Hasty Pudding now includes women on stage is absolutely the right thing to do," he said. "The heart of the artist is not only in a type of person or a way of being. It's really in us all. "
The oldest American theater organization said that Ventimiglia had been chosen because he had "significant impressions on television and in the cinema". He played the patriarch Jack Pearson in the family drama "This is Us" and played leading roles in "Gilmour Girls" and "Heroes." "
Ventimiglia said he understands why "This is Us" resonates with many Americans, even in a particularly charged political climate.
"I think people want to feel good, even in pain and sadness," Ventimiglia said. "It's a rewarding thing when, as an artist, I know that the work I'm part of creates positivity."
Hasty Pudding has honored the man of the year since 1967, and his previous winners are Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks and Christopher Walken. Paul Rudd was honored last year.
Bryce Dallas Howard has been named Hasty Pudding, the woman of the year.
